First Mutual Health, a subsidiary of First Mutual Holdings Limited, is excited to bring to the market, Micromed, an affordable, low cost medical aid plan.
Research has shown that close to 90% of the Zimbabwean population do not have medical insurance. This leaves them exposed when they fall ill, which is not in line with the global thrust and Zimbabwe’s commitment towards achieving Universal Health Coverage as enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 3, ensure healthy lives and promote well being for all at all ages.
First Mutual Health as a private player in the healthcare sector saw it fit to augment government efforts towards the health-for-all agenda, which resonates with First Mutual Holdings Limited’s strategic drive towards financial inclusion.
The economy has become largely informal many people have found themselves without medical aid as the subsidised health insurance plans by employers have become a thing of the past. In order to alleviate financial catastrophe caused by huge out of pocket medical expenditure when an uninsured falls ill, First Mutual Health has developed Micromed plan, a low cost medical insurance product aimed at ensuring access to health for all in Zimbabwe.
Micromed is a plan for low income earners, primarily those in the informal sector and organised groups; such as churches, farming groups, small scale mining sector, cross border traders, domestic workers, SMEs and everyone in search for a quality low cost medical aid plan. To be admitted as a principal member one has to be between the ages of 18 and 60 whilst beneficiaries have an age cap of 60 years on joining.
The MicroMed plan is also targeted at the secondary market who are classified as follows:
- Family nurturers – These individuals look after the extended family and want to ensure they have medical aid.
- Employers such as commercial farmers who need to insure their farm workers as well as home owners to insure their helpers.
With this plan, members enjoy the exceptional service and benefits that First Mutual Health members have become accustomed to over the years, namely, a wide service provider network, wide card acceptance, wellness programs, after sales support through our branches nationwide, our call centre and our mobile app.
To register, members can obtain forms from First Mutual Health offices countrywide. USSD codes to enable registration on the go will be available in the new year. Premium payments can be made through mobile money wallets, bank transfers and of course cash.
This revolutionary plan offers quality, affordable healthcare to members availing them access to Mission, Municipal and General Hospitals as well as clinics and General Practioners (Ts & Cs apply).
